Success on multiple levels!! [Jun. 26th, 2008|01:36 am]
The White Rabbit

Tonight I saw 3 Inches of Blood, Hatebreed, and Type O Negative for the bargain price of $28 in Cincinnati with an old friend from my highschool years. There are no pictures documenting the evening because frankly, a mosh pit is not a healthy place for electronics.
Peter Steele's years of metal are catching up with him, but when Alex elbowed me in the ribs to move my attention to the wings where Peter was staring out at the crowd, I swear to Dog I may have shit a brick. Well, my knees almost gave out anyway.
I was 20 feet from him the whole fucking time, got water thrown on me at the end when he was throwing random shit, and snagged this little beauty from a roadie which is going in my Concert Keepsakes box ironically next to the towel from the Hanson show-

That's right, bitches. Peter Steele killed half a bottle of Jager out of this Grail of Solo Cups. And now it's mine, as creepy as that may be, it's mine.

Oh, and here's the Jedi pic from Espana-

Yay metal!! Yay Star Wars!!

Spain rocked. One of the highlights was seeing the Plaza de Espana- aka Naboo space port from Episode II.
Took 400 pictures, mostly of architecture, but a few with the 10 teenage boys I was in charge of, along with my dearest friend.
Had my wallet stolen by a Portuguese bartender. The only thing irreplaceable was a note from my friend Cameron he gave me at my going away party in South Carolina. He's having his own adventure right now and I won't see him for a good long while. Atleast I still have my balloon with all of the happy insects on it.
Ate ham sandwiches every day- but not just any ham, jamon serrano. aka delicious sexy cured ham on a bocadillo.
Work is going great, but I think I might be the new jinx. In one day we had a lost child and a rescue.
Today I'm going to Cin Sity to see an old friend from my highschool days. He snagged us some tickets to see Type O Negative tonight so we're going to catch up while I keep him from killing his asshole step-dad.
Oh, and I bought a lamp.
That's it.

Mostly for Watashi no Ane, but for others too... [Jun. 4th, 2008|01:18 am]
The White Rabbit
Tonight at work: my first emergency.
A man had a seizure, stopped breathing, lost pulse, died, was revived, died, was revived, regained conciousness, was wanting to get back in the water when EMS arrived.
I was 3rd on the scene. Got the trauma bag, prepared AED and connected it to the victim. Ran out of things to do and resorted to crowd control. They told me I turned bright red and looked like I was in shock. Didn't say a word for half an hour. The free Diet Coke helped.
The worst part was that I felt like I hadn't done ANYTHING. Like nothing I did made any difference. Mom said I was like "a leg of a table...no one is more important that the other"  and explained to me why I felt this way:

Your life changes when you're totally prepared to save someone's life but can't do ANYTHING. It's happenned to me twice.
The first time I was trapped in a van while the driver died outside the door, pinning me into the vehicle. Today was the second time. No wonder I feel so fucked up in my head.

I have to work in 4 hours but I can't seem to sleep. I'm fucked up in the head at this point. Maybe it's the post-traumatic-stress-beers but I don't thinks I'll be in the best shape for a while.

I don't even use this thing really anymore, but...

...omg Twilight. OMG OMG OMFG TWILIGHT.
Saw so many fucking bumper stickers about it, about vampires, relating it to HP, that it was worth the $8 for a 500 page read I could bring to work with me between reception duties.

Holy shit. If you're a girl who is struggling to recover from the lack of new Potter and Narnia, and the 12 year old boy part of you is all about some vampire battles, and taboo love between stupid humans and the sexy undead...this is the book for you.

AND if you're having trouble coping with the horrible murder of everyone's favorite Hufflepuff- Robert Pattinson is playing the most sexual vampire ever (yeah, Lestat is dogfood compared to this guy. No joke.) <3 Edward Cullen <3 in the movie version that comes out in December. Just saw the trailer online (and it's before Speed Racer) and it's everything I thought it would be. Right down to the vampire family. Dear Jeebus I'm so in love with this effing book.

The only down side- it takes about 30 pages of teenage highschool bullshit to get into it. But once you do...woo!

BEST PART- There are 2 more books waiting for me to take them everywhere I go. (Seriously- last night, up til 5AM reading the last 400 pages)
New Moon, then Eclipse, then in August Breaking Dawn. HELLZ YEAH.

Just because today is my first posting day in over a month... [May. 9th, 2008|04:24 pm]
The White Rabbit

Being a Charleston Theatre Kid rocks my fucking face off.
I have scars from 3 classes. Seriously.
Lighting- got my shoulder caught on a gel frame when I was prepping the lights
Costuming- burned on an iron
Stagecraft- drug my hand across a jigsaw blade (it was off, I'm just clumsy).
I got credit this semester (and an A, I might add) for sewing, doing hair and make-up, taking measurements of buff men, and running around backstage in the dark with my best friend.
I got to make a 12-inch action figure of Padme for Drafting and Rendering while making a light show cued to Duel of the Fates.
There are few things in the world more draining and rewarding than spending 12 hours in the costume shop, or being in the drafting lab til 3 AM with 10 other procrastinators the day before the final presenation is due.

I have class with these people, work with these people, have lunch with them, and go out with them after we clock out. My school ROCKS.

There are so many things right with this picture:

-Got my grades, 3.4 for the semester
-Work doesn't hate me for being gone for a month this summer
-Starting my worldwide travels tomorrow
-Found my Indiana Jones hat which is TOTALLY coming with me
-Apartment hunting SUCKS ASS

It's officially summer, bitches. It's already kicking my ass, but I'm okay with that. This is probably my last summer in Louisville full time since I'm opting to do the Spoleto Festival wardrobe internship next summer/whore myself out to my connections at some theatres. Most of my belongings are in my basement, but there is enough in storage to get me by this spring wherever I end up living.
That's all I've got for now, really. Louisville is so much slower compared to the craziness of Charleston. Someone always calling for whatever reason to hang out, hit the beach, whatever. Life here should pick up when I get back in the swing of things. Right now it's just a lot of packing/unpacking/cleaning/decluttering.

[music |Paramore- Fences]

So, made it to bed at 5:50 this morning, then to class at 9:30...and I'm still pumped. Once I get into this 10 page paper I'm sure I'll start slipping, but as of now I'm good.
Work today was essentially all of the shop assistants giving each other henna tattoos with the left over paste from the play, eating gyros and picking up paychecks. I love the post-production down time. The only real work I did was fold some fabric.
The weather here is absolutely ridiculous- Saturday it was 80, last night 40 and today 60. I give up on planning beach days.
Still dressing like a hobo, only with cleaner laundry and bonding with my friends the best I can before I leave. I think Carly and Austin are in denial that I won't be around this summer/fall. There is something about knowing you won't be around for 8 months that convinces you that seeing a movie with your friends is a little more important that making it to that extra credit lecture you didn't need in the first place.
Strike is tonight, and I know I'll be working on that godforsaken paper, but I really want to watch the tower fall. The 20 foot tower from The Arabian Nights is being smashed and I'd like to snag a piece. As I got to work on the set, lighting, and costumes I really feel attached to this show.
Andy has taken to making little notes for me about where to go, what to eat, where to shop when I'm in Osaka. We'll be alumni of two colleges together, which is nice. He's warned me about all of the little things- like the undeniable urge for chocolate after eating at the ramen shop across from campus.
Whatever, time to work on this paper. I've procrastinated for about 3 weeks so I guess it's time to get on that thing.

So, Chuck E. Cheese's is really creepy when you're not 5.
Come to think of it, I never really liked the terrible animatronic band. Or the food.
There was a way better "off-brand" place next to the Dixie Dozen movie theatre when I was little, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was connected to the theatre so it made for a great family night.
Man, I miss being little.
